OCCS Programs & Events

Students who opt for off-campus accommodations can visit OCCS to learn about the network of educational and community services available to them. The office provides students with information on finding suitable housing, exercising their rights and upholding their responsibilities as tenants and as members of the community, and identifying resources that can assist with other off-campus housing questions. OCCS is available for in person assistance.

Community Ambassador Program

In an effort to assist students with their transition to off-campus living in the Syracuse University neighborhood, OCCS is proud to host the Community Ambassador Program. This program matches successful off-campus students with selected blocks in the University neighborhood. Selected students serve as ambassadors and role models to the residents of the streets they are living on. Community Ambassadors (CA) will provide a point of contact for student-residents on their assigned block, provide access to resources, and build community in order to ease the transition to off-campus living. CAs will be going door to door and e-mailing invitations to community events and timely information throughout the year.

Adopt-A-Street provides Syracuse University student organizations with a long-term service project that will enhance the quality of life for students, faculty, and staff living off-campus and aid in the beautification of the off-campus community.

Ten Tons of Love

Ten Tons of Love would not be possible without the generosity of students, faculty and staff. The Ten Tons of Love charity drive collects clothes and household items and donates them to the Rescue Mission and the CNY Food Bank in Syracuse. All the items donated are given out to members of the larger Syracuse community. In previous years we have collected over 50 tons of "stuff" to help almost 3000 families in the Syracuse area.

Student Housing Workshops

These workshops help students navigate their move off-campus by helping them figure out where to start and answer any questions they may have.
